EPL's Beauty & Cosmetics: Unlocking Growth Potential | Packaging Industry Insights (2026)

The beauty and cosmetics industry is set to take center stage as a key growth driver for EPL Ltd, a leading packaging company. In an interview, Global CEO Hemant Bakshi highlighted the potential of this segment, especially in emerging markets like India, to fuel the company's expansion plans.

Bakshi's vision for EPL is ambitious, aiming to become a global leader in consumer packaging. He believes that the company's role should evolve from a mere supplier to an innovation partner, a strategic shift that could unlock new opportunities.

The Dual Engine Strategy

EPL's growth strategy revolves around two key segments: oral care and beauty & cosmetics. Oral care, including toothpaste and related products, has been a stable and resilient business for the company, offering steady growth and inflation resistance due to its habitual consumption. However, Bakshi acknowledges that this segment has matured, with growth expected in the middle to high single digits.

On the other hand, the beauty and cosmetics sector presents a more dynamic and high-growth opportunity. Bakshi predicts that this segment could grow by as much as 20%, driven by increasing per capita consumption in countries like India. He highlights the potential for significant growth in personal care packaging, where EPL currently holds an 8% market share, aiming to increase this significantly in the coming years.

Mergers and Expansion

To support its growth ambitions, EPL is pursuing a merger with Indovida, a move that aligns with its strategy to expand beyond tubes into rigid plastics and bottles. This merger will not only strengthen EPL's presence in Southeast Asia and Africa but also open doors to new customers like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.

The proposed merger has already received approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and is now awaiting clearances from stock exchanges and the market regulator SEBI. Bakshi expects the merger to be completed by early next year, a significant step towards EPL's goal of becoming a global leader in consumer packaging.

Global Reach and Impact

With 21 facilities across 11 countries and a diverse workforce, EPL is well-positioned to cater to a wide range of customers, including those in the oral care, beauty & cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food & nutrition, and home care sectors. The company's annual production of over 9 billion tubes and its service to over 1,200 customers highlight its scale and reach.

In my opinion, EPL's focus on innovation and its dual engine strategy demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to growth. By leveraging the potential of the beauty and cosmetics industry, especially in emerging markets, and expanding its packaging offerings, EPL is well on its way to achieving its global leadership aspirations.
